Food Allergies

Food allergies account for almost 60% of all undiagnosed conditions such as asthma, bursitis, headache, childhood ear infection etc. It is prudent to step back and review what kinds of food are being ingested into the body to further improve the quality of life. An allergic reaction to peanuts is a clearly defined food allergy. We must, however, know the differences between food allergies and food sensitivities. Food sensitivities take time to develop and  actually affect one’s life. Basically sensitivities are food allergies in slow motion.

The difference between the two is that once the immune system detects a so called “invader” substance it realeases lymphocytes with five antibodies: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM. When an allergic reaction occurs, the IgE and IgG antibodies are released to combat the foreign substance. It is unknown why immune systems consider certain foods foreign. Either way the antibodies, when released cause intense reactions inside the body. The culprit of the reactions is the IgE antibodies. IgE is most common in infants, and the immune system tends to lose sensitivity to it as the body ages.

The IgG antibodies reactions are on a time release schedule which can occur hours or days after the food is ingested, making it very difficult to track what the immune system is actually reacting to.

Sensitivity testing of the immune system has been able to show what a person may be allergic to. For example, a person reports symptoms, eliminates a certain food following the sensitivity testing, the symptoms improve, but when the food is introduced again to the body symptoms return. Therefore identifying the allergy the person has conclusively.

Optimal Flu Prevention

  • Influenza disrupts life every year along with the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, which has spread at an alarming rate.
  • Receiving immunizations can help to prevent the flu, but they might not actually reduce the mortality rates, which the flu has.
  • The immune-boosting properties of Vitamin D regulate genes for vital antimicrobial peptides that can kill the influenza viruses immediately when they enter the body.
  • Taking Vitamin D in higher supplement doses are more optimal in fighting the flu rather than in smaller doses.
  • Vitamin D supplements of 5,000 IU or higher are recommended for treatment against the flu. They are better at eliminating the flu in vulnerable populations.

Colon Support

  • The digestive system houses most of our body’s immune system.
  • Digestive and immune functions of the colon decline with age. These actions contribute to diseases within the digestive tract and throughout the body.
  • Optimal colonic support provided by prebiotics can reduce cancer risks; prevent bone loss, and lower cholesterol.
  • The agave plant has special prebiotic carbohydrates, which allow bacteria to better proliferate throughout the colon.
  • The guar bean is an excellent source of prebiotic fiber, which helps to optimize bowel function and stabilize the metabolism of sugars and fats.

Skin Defense: Bolstering its Strength

  • Polypodium leucotomos is a fern plant, which grows in the rain forests and jungles of Honduras.
  • The medical uses of fern plants run throughout history ranging from Dioscorides, a 1st century Greek botanist and physician, to the Mayan culture, which used it in brewing teas for the purification of their blood.
  • The indigenous people of Central and South America have used the extract of polypodium leucotomos for centuries. Most commonly used for skin ailments, such as, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and sunburns.
  • Ashwagandha, more commonly known as Indian ginseng, is an Ayurvedic tonic known for helping with stress.
  • It relieves emotional stress, which affects the skin, and Indian gooseberry helps provide strong antioxidant protection from skin-damaging free radicals.

Parkinson’s Disease

  • Parkinson’s disease’s (PD) cause remains unknown as well as a cure for it. The most important risk factor for it is aging.
  • PD symptoms begin to show around age 50 or earlier in select cases. The risk increases as aging takes place. When 60 years comes around, incidence of PD is almost eminent.
  • Early warning signs include slowed movement, tremors, mild cognitive impairment, and difficulty standing while the end stages include dementia, immobility, neurological disorders, and death.
  • These symptoms are caused by multiple, interacting destructive processes which are brought on by oxidant stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and inflammation
  • Together these processes gradually delete basic motor skills from the brain needed for survival in the world.
  • Nutrients that enhance brainpower utilization are recommended for the prevention of PD.
  • Creatine, omega-3 fatty acids, CoQ10, B vitamins, carnitine, lipoic acid, green tea extract, and reservatrol are the most promising supplements in the prevention of PD.

Age-Related Blindness: Dead in its Tracks

  • Macular degeneration due to aging is the leading cause of blindness in older adults in industrialized nations.
  • Macular degeneration related to age has many of the same risk factors as atherosclerosis; possibly related due to underlying mechanisms of each of them.
  • Increased risk for age-related macular degeneration and vision in older adults are commonly associated with elevated levels of homocysteine and low levels of certain B vitamins, which help metabolize homocysteine.
  • A recent study conducted at Harvard University has shown conclusively that supplementation with folic acid, B6, and B12 can drastically reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration in adults with cardiovascular problems.

Vitamin B6: Blocking Glycation and Disease

We’ve received several questions recently concerning Vitamin B6.  Vitamin B6′s active ingredient is the compound pyridoxine.  Pyridoxine can be manipulated into different forms of compounds which are effective in the anti-glycation process.  Pyridoxal-5′-Phosphate and pyridoxamine-5′-phosphate are the two most active compounds in reducing glycation. The knowledge of these “vitamers” to the pharmaceutical industry surpasses the products which top the list as the best in reducing glycation.

Kidney disease is brought on due to diabetes most of the time.  Pyridoxine has been shown to reduce the amount of damage done to the kidneys in recent studies.  Throughout testing with pyridoxine,  scientists have been able to conclude that it reduces elevated blood pressures and thinning of blood vessel walls. Urinary protein excretion was also reduced to normal. Protein excretion in urine is a tell tale sign of kidney disease.

Eye disease has also been affected by these studies. It  has been shown that pyridoxal greatly improves motor skills, and also when comparing for how long it takes for a cataracts to form, scientists found that pyridoxal dramatically slowed the time it took for cataracts to form.  Pyridoxal also protected the eyes from ischemia ( lack of blood flow).

Alzheimer’s disease is also being treated with pyridoxine.  Pyridoxine has been shown to improve the growth and upkeep of brain nerve tissue.  These actions keep the glycation process at bay from clotting and forming on vital processes the human brain uses to function.

Urinary Tract Infections: Regaining Control

  • The most common type of bacterial infection is a urinary tract infection (UTI).
  • By age 24, at least one-third of all women will develop a UTI. Once a UTI has came and went, the risk of recurrence is hovering at 20%.
  • In cranberries, the compound proanthocyanidin helps to prevent E. coli from latching on to the urinary tract, thus preventing a UTI.
  • Recent studies show cranberry extract in pill form works better than drinking mass amounts of cranberry juice.
  • A groundbreaking extract, hibiscus sabdariffa, is the frontrunner in the prevention of UTI forming bacteria to adhere to the urinary tract and bladder wall.

Genes: Protection From Deadly Mutations

Chlorophyll

  • DNA mutations can be caused due to carcinogens in the food we eat everyday, and in the environment in which we reside.
  • Protection from DNA mutations is critical for to preventing disease and prolonging life.
  • Chlorophyll,   a water-soluble compound,  is the forerunner in the protection against carcinogens found within the confines of the human diet and environment in moderate, daily doses.
  • Numerous mechanisms within chlorophyll help the fight against cancer via modulating enzymes involved in the daily metabolizing of carcinogens by directly binding with carcinogens, considered to be dietary, to quicken the excretion rate, which further protects from ionizing radiation.
  • Experimental studies reveal that a special form of chlorophyll could very well help to prevent liver, breast, colon, and pancreatic cancers. It also could confer protection from the harmful effects of radiation.
  • It is especially effective in exterminating carcinogens found in well-done meat.
  • Clinically it is found to produce positive benefits for leukopenia patients. Leukopenia is a disease in which the person has a low white blood cell count.
